Sorry for the rude awakening, but, I have a question. I'm aiming to be knitting one thing a day for this month. Does that count instead of doing the 30,000 stitch count a month?
Here is what I've made this far... http://i.imgur.com/NybrI.jpg

Anyway sorry for posting, it's been so long since anyone has, I'm really curious!

National Knit Month
I don't know if anyone is doing this this year, but I am. And not only am I committed to knitting 30,000 stitches this month but I started a group on Ravelry for it. So if you're interested, please join the group!

Hey, more than half!
Kind of makes me wonder how many stitches I do in a year...but not enough to count them all. ^.^

25,281 stitches in a monthCollapse )

I don't think I'm going to make it...
I'm only up to 21,717 stitches total. Oh, well. I'll post pics on Thursday.

Up to 10,211 stitches!
I came down with a horrible cold on Friday, so I've had plenty of time to knit! I finished my mom's scarf and have been working like crazy on my knit sculpture thing...if it turns out, I'll post pictures.

OK, a much-overdue update. I need to doublecheck my count, but I've got it at 8515, and the first piece is complete. The fabric is a little more open that I'd like, so I spent tonoght swatching with two strands. I think I'll stick with one strand for the black (*stockinette) sections, but use two for the red (garter) sections -- a little extra fullness there won't hurt, whereas extra in the black sections would cause difficulty seaming.

I've also done 900 or so stitches on a couple of crochet project I've had with me at times I didn't have my main project handy.

Stitch Count: 11/6 to 11/12
Stitch counts from last week, plus pictures!Collapse )

Total stitches thus far: 26387. 23613 stitches left.

I'm going to be away on a trip from the 17th to the beginning of December... I'm planning on taking some balls of sock yarn just in case I have time to knit. Wish me luck!

6837 sts total
I finished my teacher's hat last Monday and started a scarf for my mom, but it's been hijacked by my next sculpture project.

190 rows, 6422 stitches. Should be 6420, but I seem to have an extra. No obvious incs in the fabric, so I probably cast on one too many somewhere in the increase side. Shouldn't cause any noticeable problem, and any slight extra length in the strap can be made up in the seaming.

No pic tonight; I'm tired. If I think, I'll take one tomorrow before I start.

6981 sts through Nov. 7
Monday and Tuesday (and the first half-hour of Wednesday):

On the bag, two more pattern repeats: 1600 sts. More than halfway done!

On the ruana, 13 rows: 1495 sts.
6:31 am
did another potholder.
which means I only have one more to finish to be finished mom's christmas present (that being 5 pot holders in Sugar N Cream Summer Splash, Hot Green and Delft Blue. The pattern is the first washcloth in the Mason Dixon book (the one that looks like it's woven), and I alternated; I have a Summer Splash base with blue 'ribbons', a blue base with summer splash one, a blue base, green ribbons one and a green base, summer splash one. I'm not quite certain what the last one will be; I'm out of blue, so I guess splash base, green ribbons, though part of me is also tempted to do a solid green one, with one 'ribbon' being blue (I could have bought more blue at AC Moore tonight, but I grow tired of it, and there's about 3lbs of cotton yarn in the house right now, so I'm trying to behave)).

178 rows, 5580 stitches. I've sent the pic for today to flickr, but it's not showing up yet, so no link until it does. I only did 4 rows yesterday, because I spent most of the evening preparing to vote today, and I had to frog and reknit them tonight due to an error Sunday night that I didn't notice Monday.

Stitch count
Stitch count for Sunday and Monday: 2580 Completed the last front panel to Trellis with some mods to make it longer. (not fun counting with the amount of decreases there are)
Starting sleeves tonight.

Stitch Count for twotone: 11/3 to 11/5
11/3 Stitch Count: 2504 stitches.

And a finished object!Collapse )

11/4 Stitch Count: 5140 stitches. I was going to start work on a hat for my husband, but I couldn't find the right size needles... so I cast on for another stash-busting hat.

WIP picture!Collapse )

11/5 Stitch Count: 1497 stitches, but at least I finished the hat!

Total stitches to date: 11613, according to my count. I'll bust this stash yet!

Figured out my progress

Thanks to everyone who commented on my last post, about how to figure out how many stitches I've done. I went through the Tychues pattern and figured out that it comes to about 5220 stitches - since I've already completed two this month, that puts me at 10,440, counting only completed projects. I'm currently about a third of the way through a Wavy scarf, which is 20,328 stitches, so when that's done in a couple days i'll have 30,768. Pretty good progress. Maybe I'll get more than 50k! Let's hear it for knitting in class.

I'm always suspicious of my math skills so feel free to check it, the patterns are here for Tychus:

And here for Wavy:

I'll post pictures as soon as I get new camera batteries.

133 rows, 4600 stitches. Tonight's pic is badly focused again, so I won't post,, but it's on flickr if you want to look. Wonder how I managed to get day 3 so sharp when I haven't since...
9:22 pm
Friday: purchased three pair addi turbos. Swatched like crazy to try to figure out what mosaic pattern to use on the bag.

Saturday: last two rows of bag-bottom, and then picked up stitches around the outside: 134 sts. This took two tries, as it turned out; the stripes I've added make the bottom have a WS and a RS, and the pattern doesn't account for that. Cast on first row and knit second row of ruana: 230 sts.

Sunday: 24ish rows (3 pattern repeats) on the bag, 2400 sts.

Running total for the month: 3886 sts.

(at this rate, I'll be lucky to make it halfway to 50,000 by the end of the month. On the other hand, I will be doing less swatching now that I've figured out what I'm doing and these projects have a minimum of shaping or other fussing.)

4165 sts so far this month
1665 sts done on freeform for sculpture class -- turned in on Friday
2500 sts today on a hat for my teacher -- not bribery, he asked for one ;)

Seeing that I'm (hopefully) making this big knitted installation for my next project, this will be quite easy!

8:41 pm
So, I'm a bit late to the party, but all the same I think this is a great idea. My question is; how are we supposed to keep track of how many stitches we've done? I've been working like mad on Christmas gifts and so have already finished two hats and started a scarf this month, but I'm not sure how many stitches that is. Is there some thing like hats = x stitches on average, scarves = y stitches, sweaters = z stitches?

I'm a bit daunted by the math of figuring out how many stitches are in a Tychus.
